About Us
Founded in Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois Mutual Aid is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2026 by community members with professional and lived experience. Our team recognizes the need for accessible, community-centered, and trauma-informed support across Northern Illinois.
We believe that effective community support begins with listening, building relationships, and partnering with those already doing important work. Rather than duplicating services, we strive to complement and strengthen existing community resources.
What We Do
Mutual aid is the practice of people supporting on another through shared resources, cooperation, and community care. Unlike traditional charity models, mutual aid recognizes that everyone has strengths, experiences, and contributions that can help build stronger communities.
We believe solutions are strongest when they are created with the community rather than for the community.
Providing hygiene items, household necessities, children's toys, and other essential resources.
Meeting people where they are through outreach efforts, pop-up events, and community engagement.
Connecting individuals and families with local organizations, programs, and services.
